How Are Tanjore Painting Made?

There are many steps involved in the creation of a Tanjore Painting, the primary involves drawing the preliminary sketch of the image on the bottom. the bottom is created of an artifact, that is glued over a wood base. The second step consists of blending chalk powder or zinc oxide with soluble adhesive and applying it to the bottom. Thereafter, the drawing is created and ornate with glassware, pearls, and even semi-precious stones. Laces or threads may additionally be wont to beautify the painting. To more augment the result, wafer skinny sheets of gold are glued in relief on some elements of the painting, whereas the opposite elements are painted in bright colors.

So when it comes to the smallest size painting, the detailing of the same is minimum only, but when it comes to next size to bigger size paintings, the detailings are more and actually magnificent.

So, for a Perumal tanjore painting at lesser price, its the smallest size wherein the face of the god is not more than 1.5 cms. But for the bigger size paintings, you will see curtains, decorations, backdrops, clear visibility of face, eyes, so it is priced higher.

Do you have a catalog?

Mokksha artworks are unique and non-duplicable. Though many pieces may look similar, no two pieces can be exactly the same. For this reason, we have found that a Printed Catalog of our mokksha products may carry only a very limited profile of our articles. Our online store is thus the best possible reflection of the products we can offer.

Care instructions?
These handmade tanjore paintings are everlasting. As the family grows, these paintings will become antique one day, but the finish, the art, the work will remain intact, as far as the frame is intact. And for the rigidness of the frame, we use thick and original old teak wood, for its elegance and durability

What are the different styles of Tanjore Paintings?
Gold Foil (Best Seller): In this type, the gold foils are stuck over a paper sheet, which is then pasted & used over the muck work or chalk work of the tanjore paintings. Glossy finish.

Direct Gold Leaf (Antique): In this type, the gold foils are in raw form i.e. not stuck over a sheet. This type of gold work is rare and expensive, as it gives the original old traditional look to the paintings. Eg: Like silver foils on Sweets. Traditional Finish (Matte Type)

Semi Embossed (2D): In this type, the muck work (or chalk work) where the gold foil is layed, is semi-embossed, giving it a 2D effect. I.e. The gold work will be projected, but the painting will be flat work - This look awesome on all painting sizes, particulary above 15"x12".
